Short Story Format Templates MS Word and WordPerfect

As a courtesy to our readers and writers wishing to submit stories to prospective markets, we are providing templates for Microsoft Word set in the standard format required by most publishers of short stories, but specifically how we like to see them here at Macabre Cadaver. The font is set in Courier New 12pt, double spaced. The header is preset so when new pages are created you can edit the header and put in your information once and all headers will change accordingly. The page number will automatically increase. The word count field can be updated by right clicking and selecting option to update, or enter the word count manually if you so desire. You can view the included PDF file to see what it will look like with a few pages of content. If you cut and paste into this template, be sure to reset the font and styles because MS Word will incorporate any styles from a previous document. The best method is to paste into Notepad first, which will remove all extraneous styles, and then paste into the template (note: all styles will be removed with this method, including italics and underlines). The rich text file included is not a template, and if you save over it the file will be altered permanently, so change the name before saving when using the RTF file as a template. The zip file contains all documents packaged together.

If you require a WordPerfect template, or would like to learn more about this style of manuscript formatting, William Shunn has a nice website devoted to the design of proper manuscript format. He has a PDF that explains all of the details and a page where the templates can be found.
