About

Established August 2008, Macabre Cadaver Magazine is an American horror, fantasy and Science fiction magazine which publishes short fiction, poetry, and non-fiction articles. Macabre Cadaver Magazine is produced by Stark Raven Press and is available as an online webzine available in PDF and HTML format, and beginning January 2011 we will release our new and improved magazine in a quarterly digest format.

Over the last few years Macabre Cadaver has gone through several transformations. In the beginning we were just a webzine. Then we tried our hands at going into print, which was a complete flop, and only lasted for two print runs. After that, we decided to go back to just publishing online as a journal with no regular schedule and focusing more on non-fiction material. There was a dry spell during 2010 where MC went into a slumber and it looked like it might be the end of the line for our humble little magazine. That is not how it is going to end.

We've decided to revamp MC and go back into print on a quarterly basis as a digest sized magazine. In addition to that, we've also decided to move up to a token payment with a flat rate of $10 per short story, article, and artwork, and $5 per flash fiction story or work of poetry. It's a drop in the bucket when you consider the pay that popular writers like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Paterson, John Grisham, etc. make from the sale of their fiction. We know that. There are markets out there that will pay handsomely for works of fiction, but getting a piece published with them is about as likely as winning the lottery. Yeah, you need to be a good writer, but there is some luck involved too—maybe something like accidentally bumping into somebody and mixing up your manuscript with their tax records in the Halls of Publishing in New York, or knowing a friend of a friend who's a friend with some bigwig at Random House. You get the idea. We are not attempting to compete in such a class. We just want to move up the ladder and show that we mean business, and if the opportunity comes to pay out professional rates in the future then that is what we will do.

We are still learning and growing with technology and the publishing industry, all while striving to survive in an uncertain economy. August 2010 marks our 2nd year anniversary, and now we are moving into our third year of publishing and we hope, with the help of all the great and talented writers out there and the constant readers, to make it a smashing success. That doesn't mean becoming financially wealthy, either. Our goal is to get the public to read the stories we publish and leave them wanting more. Reading is what we would like to see the most. So, pick up a good book and spend an hour or two reading something entertaining, throught provoking, or insightful. If you want—and we hope you do—you can read some of our stories. We've got all sorts of bogies lurking within our pages, and inexplicable things that go bump in the night, and psychos, and vampires, and just about anything you could possibly want from a dark fiction magazine.

Stay tuned for more great stuff coming your way from Macabre Cadaver.
